Leeds United star Archie Gray was substituted in the final few moments of Wednesday night’s win over Norwich City at Elland Road – and Phil Hay has delivered an update on the Elland Road talent.
Gray, 17, has been sensational for Leeds this season. He won man of the match again on Wednesday as Patrick Bamford scored the only goal of the game – with Farke heaping praise on his “perfect” tackle.
But, Gray was subbed off and Farke spoke after the match on Wednesday night that he was concerned himself about his own knee. However, Farke declared himself “carefully optimistic” about the injury.
Obviously, we will learn more about his injury in today’s press conference when Farke speaks to the media. But it is likely that Gray will be missing, or at least rested, for this weekend’s FA Cup outing.
Leeds take on Plymouth at Elland Road, handing us a real chance of going into the fifth round. Hay says Gray will be missing, and was worried he had done his anterior cruciate ligament on Wednesday night.
“Gray will certainly be out for this weekend I would imagine. They’re doing tests on his knee. Farke said afterwards that Gray was concerned that he over-stretched ligaments and it might be an ACL problem.
“But they had a good look at him last night after the game, didn’t think that was what was going to be – but they still need to work out his time scale,” Hay said, in his latest episode with The Square Ball.

It is worrying that Gray had done something serious to his knee, and highlights the need for Leeds to enter the January window and bring in a new right-back. Jamie Shackleton will surely start on Saturday.
Indeed, given that Leeds had played two games in the space of a few days – there is surely going to be a few changes to allow those who played on Wednesday to recover. Dan James will certainly be missing.
