‘That is the time’… £6m player refuses to rule out future transfer after being linked with Leeds United

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Ilias Chair says now is not the time to think about a transfer amid previous links to Leeds United.

Leeds were linked with a deadline day move for Chair back in the summer following Luis Sinisterra’s extremely late loan switch to Bournemouth, though it was Jaidon Anthony who came the other way as his replacement.

Journalist Darren Witcoop reported that Chair was valued at around £6 million by QPR at the time, but due to how late Leeds made their move, they did not want to sell him.

And in an interview with Football League World earlier this week, Chair has been asked about his future with the January transfer window not far away.

He says that his ‘full focus’ remains on helping QPR escape relegation trouble at the moment, but hint that the door is open by suggesting that he would ‘think about’ it if an offer came in.

Leeds need a number 10 in January

He said: “My full focus is on QPR at the moment so I cannot be distracted by anything else. I owe this club a lot of things, the least I can do is concentrate on every game and every training session I have for QPR.

“If anything ever came about then that is the time to think about that. Right now, it’s just about QPR. It’s about getting the best out of myself and getting the best out of this team.”

Having missed out on Nadiem Amiri in the summer, Leeds opted against signing an alternative target in the number 10 position, but it should be back on the agenda next month.

Leeds have relied on Georginio Rutter’s creativity a lot so far this season, but when he is not firing at the top of his game, they have very little else centrally when it comes to breaking down opponents.

Daniel Farke says Leeds are expected to have a quiet January transfer window but it would be foolish not to at least attempt to sign an attacking midfielder amid recent struggles to break down deep defences.

Whether Chair is the right man to fill that void for Leeds is another question, but he has certainly proven himself to be a good player at this level.
