It is difficult to comprehend how Leeds United managed to throw away a two-goal lead to Hull City on Saturday afternoon, having lead 3-1 right up until the 80th minute.
This is a Leeds side that just this season, have shown the character to come back and equalise after going behind to Portsmouth on the opening day in injury time, or win 4-3 at Swansea despite a late equaliser.
Leeds looked as though they were cruising to a 3-1 win after three goals in the second half scored by Ao Tanaka, Dan James and Joel Piroe. But they were undone by the mistakes of goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
Leeds fans were fuming with Meslier, as the Frenchman dropped a loose ball to Joao Pedro before he was beaten in the middle of his goal for Hull’s third. He hardly showered himself in glory with Hull’s first, too.
Mark Wilson notices something about Daniel Farke at Hull City
The frustration was evident among the Leeds players. Joe Rodon was so angry he stormed down the tunnel at full-time without applauding the fans, while Mateo Joseph had “a bite” at a couple of players.
TalkSPORT commentator Mark Wilson, who often reports on Leeds, shared something on X that he noticed about manager Daniel Farke. Often cool, calm and collected, Wilson felt Farke broke character.
Wilson reported on X that the failure to beat Hull had got to the Leeds manager: “Have to say I’ve never seen Daniel so disappointed. He’s pretty level-headed post-match, but today has hurt him.”

The draw leaves Leeds top of the Championship but their lead over Sheffield United and indeed Burnley, reduced to just a point with Scott Parker and Chris Wilder’s sides beating Blackburn and Watford.
Speaking after the game, Farke shared what disappointed him most. He says that having played so well in the second half, it is a tough one to take to come away from Hull without securing all three points.
“We scored three, but it is difficult to explain the two late goals despite them not really having a chance. After such a terrific performance in the second half to drive away with one point is disappointing.”
Leeds are next in action on Saturday when they take on local side Harrogate in the third round of The FA Cup before hosting Sheffield Wednesday on January 18 at Elland Road.
