Where do you start with Leeds United’s 3-3 draw with Hull City? Having gone in at half-time losing by a goal to nil, Leeds came out in the second half and raced to a 3-1 lead.

But, Leeds were the architects of their own downfall as Illan Meslier endured one of his worst performances in a Leeds shirt – as Hull scored two goals to steal a point from Daniel Farke’s leaders.

Meslier was in no-mans-land for Hull’s first goal, before palming a looping ball to the feet of Joao Pedro who scored Hull’s second. Abu Kamara scored his second and Hull’s third from the edge of the area.

Having led by two goals going into the last 20 minutes, it looked as if Leeds would edge towards a big away win and a third away victory away in a row. But, to the anger of fans, Leeds failed to hold on.

Joe Rodon spotted absolutely fuming going off the pitch

Farke made two changes to his defence. Ethan Ampadu replaced the absent Pascal Struijk while Max Wober came in at left-back for Sam Byram and ultimately, neither had the best of games in defence.

But it was Meslier to blame and not for the first time this season, as frustration transferred to the players at full-time. Adam Pope reports of how Joe Rodon was absolutely “fuming” as he walked off the pitch.

Pope reported on X: “Bewildered how Leeds can win back control & then throw two points away. Huge questions over 1st half defending and Meslier in particular. Tanaka’s 1st goal, James 6th & a 10th for Piroe needlessly wasted with a point. Rodon furious as he left pitch.”

Where do Leeds sit in the Championship table after 3-3 draw?

Unfortunately for Leeds, it is not a good weekend in terms of results especially having failed to hold on to a two-goal lead. Sheffield United went to Watford and despite their numerous injuries, secured a 2-1 win.

Burnley meanwhile, kept another clean sheet in the lunchtime Lancashire derby at Ewood Park against Blackburn. They secured a 1-0 win, while Sunderland host Portsmouth on Sunday at the Stadium of Light.

So, with Leeds only drawing and both Sheffield United and Burnley winning, Leeds remain on top of the table. But having gone into the game three ahead, Leeds are now only one point ahead of 2nd and third.
