Mateo Joseph was spotted having ‘a bite’ at a couple of Leeds United teammates after full-time at Hull City

Saturday afternoon felt like a defeat for Leeds United at Hull City, as The Whites surrendered a two-goal lead to Ruben Selles’ side with Illan Meslier enduring one of his worst outings as a Leeds player.

Leeds had gone in at the break 1-0 down after Abu Kamara’s early opener but for the first 30 minutes of the second half, Leeds were their brilliant best. From 1-0 down, Leeds went 3-1 up at the KCOM Stadium.

Goals from Ao Tanaka, Dan James and Joel Piroe looked as though Leeds would win a 16th Championship match having failed to beat Blackburn three days prior. But, the game wasn’t done and Hull came back.

Illan Meslier may have been to blame for Hull’s first, but he was at fault for Hull’s second when dropping a looping ball at the feet of Joao Pedro. Hull’s equaliser saw Meslier beaten in the middle of his goal.

Frustration aplenty among Leeds players including Mateo Joseph

Leeds fans were fuming and the Leeds players were angry, too. Joe Rodon was seen storming down the tunnel without applauding the fans, such was his rage that Leeds had thrown away a two-goal lead.

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds after the game, presenter Jonathan Buchan shared how Meslier looked “really dejected” while Mateo Joseph was also unhappy, having “a bite” at a couple of his teammates.

“Illan Meslier looked really dejected after the full-time whistle. Couple of the players were having a word with each other, Mateo Joseph had a bite by the looks of things with a couple of players around him.”

It feels like a loss, but Leeds still sit top of the Championship

Despite wins for Sheffield United and Burnley, the Championship takes a pause for the third round of The FA Cup with Leeds still at the top of the table by a point, while Sunderland face Portsmouth on Sunday.

It might feel like a loss and the chance to remain three points ahead has gone. But in the grand scheme of things, Leeds are unbeaten in eight and are still top of the table after 26 Championship games played.

Compare this to last season, Leeds were in fourth place. A massive 17 points off first-placed Leicester and seven behind Ipswich with only 48 points on the board, five behind the 53 they have accumulated so far.
