Leeds United utility man Stuart Dallas has shared a new update on when he hopes to be back playing again.

Dallas is now approaching an incredible two years on the sidelines having fractured his femur in a 4-0 defeat to Manchester City at Elland Road all the way back in April 2022.

Such a long period out injured is something not many players have to deal with in their careers and clearly this is an incredibly rare kind of injury for a footballer to have suffered.

The 32-year-old has encountered a number of setbacks during his road to recovery and had even been back training properly with the rest of the squad in the first couple of months of the season.

However, that would appear as though it was a false alarm as he hasn’t really got any closer to playing since then, but insisted around that point in no way was he thinking of retirement.

Leeds could have a very tough decision to make at the end of the season, as Dallas is out of contract. Clearly it would be difficult to let him go without getting him back in a position to be ready to play again.

It has been reported, though, that Leeds are unlikely to offer him a new deal, and so he has just over a month in order to get back fit, if he wants to play for the club again.

Dallas was working as a pundit for BBC last night in coverage for Northern Ireland’s 1-0 win at Scotland last night, and via the Yorkshire Evening Post, gave an update on when he wants to be back playing again.

He said: “I’m okay. I’m glad to be here to see the game, obviously almost two years ago since I had the injury, so I’m doing okay. I’m working towards trying to get back for the end of the season, we’re doing everything we can and hopefully I can do that,”

“It’s been a frustrating couple of years for me, the aim is to get back before the end of the season. Whether that happens or not, we don’t know, but I’m working as hard as I can and if that means being available for the summer, I hope so.

“But at the minute we’re taking it one day at a time and we’ll see where that takes me. It’s been difficult, there’s no getting away from it. It’s been a tough road, at times a lonely road. Listen, I can’t feel sorry for myself. Nobody’s gonna do my rehab for me. I’ve got to do it myself. And I’ll get there.

“I’ve never really let myself go that way. “We’ve just got to stay strong. I’m very, very fortunate for the career that I’ve had. If that comes to an end, we’ll deal with that when it comes – but at the minute I’m not thinking about that.”

“I’ve had a number of setbacks of course I have, but I’m in the best hands possible at Leeds. The club have been brilliant with me, the fitness department there, the medical department, rehab has been second to none.

“I’m out of contract at the end of this year, but there’s one thing for sure, I’ll not give up and I would never turn my back on my country either, so if that means continuing, that’s what I’ll try to do. Absolutely [staying at Leeds] would be the aim, but we’re taking it one day at a time.”

What is Daniel Farke’s latest update on Stuart Dallas

Daniel Farke has been asked to give a number of update’s on Dallas’ fitness over the course of the season, with the most recent coming just over a month ago.

It would be a special moment for everyone at the club if he was able to play for Leeds again at least one more time before he leaves, particularly if promotion is already secured.

Dallas has been pictured at pretty much every single home game this season which is a testament to just how much he cares, and here is what Farke has most recently had to say on him.

He said: “With Stuart, the same. He gets all the time he needs. He’s been out for so many months, it is not possible to speak about days. We give him all the time. He’s seen different consultants.

“We’ve tried everything in order to work with him in the most-professional way and hope it works out in the end. We try everything to support him and don’t want to put any pressure on him.”
