Stuart Dallas says Leeds United can fix Marcelo Bielsa’s mistake with £150m Leeds United claim

Daniel Farke will want to avoid any mistakes made by Marcelo Bielsa in his Premier League tenure.

Leeds United seemingly have the impossible task of staying in the top flight next season.

That’s going off the past trends of newly-promoted sides getting the boot after just one campaign, even after the likes of Southampton and Ipswich Town spent over £100m.

With the same sort of budget at the hands of the Whites next season, it’s a tricky task to fulfil for the 49ers.

However, Stuart Dallas has raised an interesting point that shows the new ownership needs to learn from the past errors made.

With potentially not enough budget available, the Whites could always sell on, and that’s what Dallas thinks will happen with Ao Tanaka.

Other than that though, the squad seems pretty compact, and the togetherness is stronger than ever, but Farke will have to disrupt that with new arrivals.

After Manor Solomon’s goal got Leeds to the promised land, he will be a name that could put a dent into the £100m budget quoted, but going by what Dallas has said, this is the way forward.

Speaking to The Mirror, the former Whites defender has stated Leeds could actually challenge Man United next season, and go further and beyond if they stick by his advice.

“The gap is big. That’s common knowledge because promoted teams and how they’ve done in the last number of seasons. I think it is continuing to grow,” Dallas said.

“Leeds are in a position where they financially can go and strengthen. You can give me £150m and I can go and spend it. What I’m trying to say is the recruitment has to be right.

“I think they’ll have learned from the past, and they have the potential to really do something within the next number of years in the Premier League. But again, for me, the recruitment has to be key, which I’m sure it will be.”

Where Bielsa went wrong at Leeds in the Premier League

If the 49ers take Dallas’ words into account, they can become a sustainable club in the Premier League.

So far, the signs are looking good for this to happen, with the ownership going for Premier League targets.

This is exactly where Bielsa went wrong, as despite the 2021 transfer window proving to be solid with the introduction of Dan James and Junior Firpo, it was the season before where recruitment was wasted.

Although Leeds achieved a strong 9th-place finish this season, it was the summer after where only four signings were brought in.

This was a mistake from Bielsa and the hierarchy, as the players listed above clearly weren’t good enough for Premier League standard, and that’s the situation the 49ers have to avoid this summer, whilst continuing that trend of recruitment.

Farke might only have four players worthy of a start next season, so the budget has to be spent on improvements, but to avoid flops like the past will be a tricky challenge.
