Rodrigo Muniz shares how he really felt over the summer after Leeds United bid for him

Leeds United were desperate to sign Rodrigo Muniz during the summer transfer window. But the striker remained with Fulham.

Leeds United wanted attackers throughout the summer, and right up to deadline day which proved to be a fiasco at Elland Road.

Rodrigo Muniz seemed like the one who Daniel Farke wanted. Reports even claimed that Muniz was Leeds United’s no.1 striker target in the summer, but for the sky-high asking price.

Fulham demanded £50million Muniz right from the off and it made a Leeds United move for the Brazilian unlikely all along, with Spurs also seeing a bid for Muniz rejected along with Leeds.

In the end, Dominic Calvert-Lewin arrived at Elland Road on a free transfer and the former Everton man got his first goal for Leeds against Wolves last time out.

In the build up to the opening game of the season, Leeds’ links with Muniz seemed to be intensifying, as well as taking a lot of twists and turns along the way.

And the 24-year-old showed Leeds and Spurs exactly what they missed out on by scoring a 97th minute equaliser in Fulham’s opening game of the season away at Brighton. Speaking with the Premier League’s official YouTube account, Muniz admitted the two weeks before that game were difficult.

Muniz said: “This game (opening day vs Brighton) was a little bit strange. Two weeks before, it was two tough weeks for me in the head. I went to the game because I’m a professional guy, I knew I was going to score, I knew I needed one chance to score and I scored in the last minute, it was really good.”

Calvert-Lewin now has all the pressure on his shoulders after Leeds’ failed deadline day pursuits. But that goal in Leeds United’s 3-1 win over Wolves will give him a world of confidence.

It was a very well-taken goal and it may have been coming for the 11-time England man who looked good in the previous game against Muniz’s Fulham too.

Both are clearly good strikers and Leeds United definitely got the more financially viable option in Calvert-Lewin, and the more experienced one too, though Muniz may be the one who thrives over the longer-term.

Either way, Leeds United sit in 12th place of the Premier League table after five games which is a huge achievement for Farke, and a testament to his side’s summer transfer business.
