Patrick Vieira has not yet emerged as a first choice candidate for the Leeds United job contrary to reports earlier this week.

That is according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, who claim people inside the club insist at this stage it remains an open race and several candidates are still in contention for the role.

Reports from the Guardian earlier this week indicated Vieira had become the front runner for the position at Elland Road ahead of the likes of Daniel Farke and Scott Parker.

However, that appears to have been slightly premature with the race still very much up in the air, though an appointment is looking to be made by the end of the weekend.

Face-to-face interviews have been taking place in London all week and that process is set to be concluded by today at the latest, allowing them to secure their man in the next 48 hours.

Vieira has not emerged as leading candidate despite reports

Vieira does still remain very much in contention for the vacancy but reports stating he was the leading contender are seemingly off the mark.

The 47-year-old has reportedly made it clear he would be very keen on landing the role, as he looks to return to management for the first time since being sacked by Crystal Palace in March.

Up until a long winless run that culminated in him losing his job, Vieira had looked to be building a decent project at Palace, guiding them to 12th place and an FA Cup semi-final in his first season.

His lack of Championship experience may be cause for concern for San Francisco 49ers, though, with the other two main contenders having twice been promoted to the Premier League.

Where his attraction may lay is the type of players he could tempt into joining Leeds given his standing in the game as a player.
