Report: 46-year-old now front runner for Leeds job with final interviews this week

Patrick Vieira has emerged as the front runner for the vacant managerial role at Leeds United.

That is according to the Guardian, who report Vieira is extremely keen on landing the job and as such, has moved to the top of Leeds’ shortlist.

Leeds have been conducting their final face-to-face interviews this week as they look to finalise the process of making an appointment in the coming days.

And if reports are correct, Vieira is now the leading candidate for the position ahead of Daniel Farke and Scott Parker, who do both still remain in contention at this stage.

Vieira does not possess the Championship promotion know-how on his CV but does boast Premier League experience and fits the bill of being out of work.

Vieira now front runner for Leeds job

The 46-year-old has been without a job since leaving Crystal Palace in March on the back of a long winless run that left them deep in the battle to beat the drop.

Prior to that, Vieira had appeared to be building a decent project at Selhurst Park, though the struggles towards the end of his tenure raised enough concerns for Palace to pull the trigger.

It is also reported in the Guardian Vieira could celebrate his 47th birthday on Friday with the job at Leeds, which would be his fourth in management.

The former Arsenal midfielder started in the MLS at New York City FC where he managed current Whites winger Jack Harrison, before then moving to Nice and then Palace.

Vieira would be handed the remit of securing an immediate return to the Premier League with Leeds, who are now under pressure to secure a swift appointment after confirmation of Russell Martin’s arrival at Southampton yesterday evening.
