Report: 49ers aware of ‘value’ of Leeds star despite Monday announcement over exit

The Mail claim that The 49ers are ‘well versed’ in the ‘value’ of Adam Forshaw at Leeds United despite Monday’s announcement stating that he would not be offered a new deal as things stand – but invited back for pre-season.

Forshaw, 31, is set to see his contract expire at the end of the month. But instead of handing Forshaw a new deal, they have decided to let it come to an end. Similarly with Joel Robles, it will be up to the new manager to decide.

According to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton, Leeds are actually in talks with Forshaw and Robles over a new contract to keep both at Elland Road. That is despite the announcement which stated both will leave this month.

Now, The Mail report that The 49ers are more than aware that keeping midfielder Forshaw at the club could be an important move – despite his injury troubles. Forshaw was one of the better players during Sam Allardyce’s reign.

With so many players likely to leave, especially in the middle of the park – Weston McKennie has gone, and Mundo Deportivo claim a loan to Real Betis for Marc Roca is ‘imminent’ – it is important to keep some level of stability.

Forshaw is that. While he is ravaged by injury, the ex-Everton and Middlesbrough man is the kind of personality that is important to have in the dressing room. When on the pitch, he is easily good enough for a top Championship side.

So, if Leeds have the chance to keep Forshaw, they should. Whoever comes in as manager, they have got to decide to keep Forshaw. For the midfielder, it is important that he remains fit between now and the start of the 23-24 term.
