Leeds United are in talks with Adam Forshaw over a new deal despite announcing he would be released yesterday.
That is according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton, who reports goalkeeper Joel Robles is also in the same situation following Leeds’ retained list on Monday.
The two players are both set to be invited back to pre-season training anyway, but discussions over a fresh contract indicate they are looking to put the pieces into place for them to stay.
With Leeds currently in the process of appointing a new manager, bringing them back for pre-season will allow whoever is handed the role to take a clear look at them and decide whether they are worth keeping.
Both players were regulars under Sam Allardyce during the final four matches of the Premier League season, with Forshaw starting all but one, and Robles an ever present.

Forshaw’s performances at the end of the season were, if anything, a damning indictment on Leeds’ recruitment over the last couple of years.
He was the only player in the squad capable of putting his foot on the ball and in the Championship, there is no doubt he would be a useful asset.
However, where Forshaw’s problem lays is his fitness. He spent much of last season out injured and Leeds must weigh up whether to take another risk in keeping him.
A pay as you play deal would certainly work from Leeds’ perspective, but whether Forshaw would agree to that is another question.
Robles, meanwhile, proved himself to be a more than able deputy between the sticks but is also attracting interest from former club Everton.
Providing Illan Meslier departs as expected, Leeds will be in the market for a new number one, though keeping Robles would be a shrewd move.
