Leeds United defender Joe Rodon has been praised for his performance in Wales’ 1-1 draw with Turkey on Tuesday night.
Rodon was starting alongside Leeds teammate Ethan Ampadu in Cardiff, who is also said to have produced a solid performance. Dan James was a late substitute.
Both Rodon and Ampadu were handed ratings of 7/10 by Wales Online in their post-match coverage, with the draw unfortunately not enough to send Wales to next summer’s EUROs.
Back-to-back 1-1 draws against Armenia and Turkey meant that it was Croatia who progressed to the tournament in Germany alongside the latter.
Wales‘ last chance of securing their passage will come in the March international break as they enter the play-offs, of which Rodon and Ampadu are likely to be key once again.
Rodon and Ampadu replicate Leeds form for Wales
Writing in their player ratings piece after the game, Rodon was praised for making a number of key contributions at the back.
They wrote: “Joe Rodon 7 – Made several really good defensive contributions to keep Turkey at bay,” before saying on Ampadu: “Ethan Ampadu 7 -Should have perhaps put the game to bed, but just couldn’t divert his header away from the keeper. Still, a reasonably assured performance.”

Rodon has been outstanding for Leeds in recent weeks and so it is no surprise to see him replicating this form on the international stage with Wales.
Wales and former Tottenham teammate Ben Davies believes Leeds have provided Rodon with the platform to return to his best form, and that is certainly what he is doing.
Ampadu, meanwhile, was as solid as usual even if he still hasn’t quite mastered the art of scoring, which has been evident in some of his long-range shooting at Elland Road.
