Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has been quoted by Wales Online as saying he is delighted to see Joe Rodon starring at Leeds United on loan, with the centre-back starring for the Whites.

Rodon, 26, joined Leeds in the summer on a season-long loan. It comes after struggling to break in at Tottenham during his two years in North London. Last term, he was sent on loan to French side Rennes.

Djed Spence followed him six months later, with Spence now also on loan at Leeds from Spurs. Rodon has been superb at the back, starting 12 of our last 14 League games – suspended for one of those.

Rodon is giving Leeds the defensive impetus to challenge for automatic promotion in England’s second tier, whether that be alongside Liam Cooper or Pascal Struijk. One of the first names on the team sheet.

Speaking ahead of the November international break in which Davies and Rodon will face Armenia and Turkey, Davies declared himself ecstatic to see Rodon shine in a Leeds shirt since he joined on loan.

“People forget how challenging it is going somewhere and then you have to move every nine months to a new place. But I think he really seems to have found himself a home at Leeds. Joe is a terrific player.

“Very solid, good on the ball. To see him have success at Leeds, it really does make me happy. Joe is one of my best mates, so we speak all the time. He is a really good defender, showing that right now.”

Rodon has been exceptional for Leeds and if we are going to do anything this season, keeping Rodon fit and in form is absolutely crucial. Indeed, hopefully, we can keep Rodon beyond the end of his loan spell.

To do that, though, may require promotion. Not simply because Rodon will see himself as a Premier League player – but finances dictate that spending £15m on a defender, means we need top-tier cash.

Phil Hay told The Square Ball last week that in talks between Spurs and Leeds, we initially asked to sign Rodon permanently – but were told to spend £15m. That value is not going down at this moment in time.
