So, after relegation, Leeds United are on the precipice of a huge summer in which the club are likely to be subject to a takeover while also appointing a manager – five names have been linked with leading Leeds in the Championship.

Leeds will be hoping to mirror Burnley next term, having returned to the second tier after just three years. It took us 16 years to get back to the top tier last term and it is crucial we avoid that. Getting the right manager is paramount.

There will be interest, especially if the club complete a takeover sooner rather than later. The chance to completely mould Leeds to a manager’s taste. Here are the five managers linked with taking over Leeds this summer, rated.

Rating the five names linked with leading Leeds in Championship:

5. Sam Allardyce

Of course, Big Sam is an option. But one point from the last four games, and a bizarre selection of players in the final game against Spurs should convince Leeds otherwise. The Sun claim the Leeds players want him to stay put.

4. Steven Gerrard

The Sun claim the 49ers could turn to Gerrard. Linked with Leeds previously, his appointment would not delight a large section of Leeds fans but given the club are now in the Championship, Gerrard could now be more our calibre.

3. Carlos Corberan

The Mail (30.05, p66) said West Brom boss Corberan was back on the Leeds list after he rejected Leeds in February, signing a new deal with the Baggies. He knows Leeds, impressing at Huddersfield and West Brom in the second tier.

2. Brendan Rodgers

Leeds Live say he is on the list. Rodgers would be a wonderful appointment – but, he would be expensive, and would expect the 49ers to back him enormously. It is more than likely he sees himself above the Championship, anyway.

1. Graham Potter

Ex-Chelsea manager Potter is another. The Mail (30.05, p66) say he is a target. We think Potter would be the best possible choice of the five, given his ability to build a team for the long term – as the 48-year-old did at Brighton.
