Some of the Leeds United squad would like Sam Allardyce to continue as the club’s manager after his spell in interim charge at the end of this past season.
That is according to a report from The Sun, which suggests that many of the players actually enjoyed working with the former England boss for the final four games of the campaign.
Of course, it proved to be a miserable end to the season. Sam Allardyce could not save Leeds, who picked up one point during his four games in charge. And they are now heading to the Championship.
Leeds players want Allardyce to stay as manager
For many Leeds fans, the club need to rediscover a long-term vision. But with so much up in the air at Elland Road right now, it is hard to not feel that some continuity may be needed.
And it seems that the players feel that way. According to The Sun, the players would like Allardyce to continue at Leeds after enjoying working with him.
Admittedly, Allardyce is not responsible for Leeds’ relegation. It was always going to be a monumental ask to get the Whites out of danger – particularly when one of his four games in charge was against title-chasing Manchester City.
However, it would not be ideal to keep him on. He is not blameless either. The team selection on the final day left many fans scratching their heads.
And obviously, he is not known for encouraging his sides to play a thrilling brand of football. So he would be under more pressure to deliver brilliant results.
However, as previously mentioned, there are so many doubts over Leeds right now. We are still awaiting an update on the ownership status. And there needs to be a new director of football appointed.
The more appointments Leeds make, the more risks they will be taking. So perhaps there is a feeling that sticking with some things which are familiar – and not particularly scarred by this past season – will do Leeds some favours in the Championship.
