Nottingham Forest have just made a decision which could impact on Leeds United

Leeds United are in the market for a new right-back this month and a host of names have been linked.

The Whites had been well stocked in that department at the beginning of the window but after cutting short Djed Spence’s loan from Tottenham Hotspur, and allowing Luke Ayling to join Middlesbrough, they aren’t any longer.

Daniel Farke has already admitted it is a position that could do with addressing among those Leeds are reportedly targeting are West Ham’s Ben Johnson and Burnley’s Connor Roberts.

But one player who they like really like is Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams, who was also a target for Leeds in the summer before they decided to sign Spence.

A deal, though, looks extremely tough to complete for Williams and Leeds’ hopes have been dealt a new blow, if the Daily Telegraph’s latest article is anything to go by.

Forest want to offload Aurier, rather than Williams

They report that Forest are keen to let go of several players before the end of the window, but in terms of at right-back, Serge Aurier is the one they want to lose, rather than Williams.

Aurier has spent the entirety of Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign on the sidelines with a calf injury, which has allowed Williams to be involved in all four matches. Gonzalo Montiel is first choice.

Phil Hay claimed at the end of last week that Williams is going to be a very tough deal to do for Leeds, and so if they let Aurier go, it is unlikely they will let anyone else follow.

Leeds are willing to be patient this month in order to secure their top targets, but if Williams is one of them, they may be taking a risk by holding out for him.

The Telegraph claim Forest are working closely with the Premier League following their recent charge for breaching profit and sustainability rules. The only chance Leeds may have is if Forest fail to offload Aurier, and decide that Williams may have to go.
