‘Not ideal’… Rotherham manager now admits two key players are missing from tonight’s game vs Leeds

Rotherham United caretaker boss Wayne Carlisle has confirmed Cafu and Sam Clucas will miss tonight’s match with Leeds United.

The midfield duo are both suffering with hamstring injuries picked up in the 5-0 defeat at Watford in the final game before the most recent international break.

Carlisle – who is in interim charge for tonight’s match following the sacking of Matt Taylor at the beginning of last week – provided the update to the Rotherham Advertiser in his pre-match press conference.

Clucas has been a regular at Rotherham since signing for the club in mid-September, while Cafu has provided three assists in 11 starts following his arrival in the summer.

Leeds could also be missing a key player of their own this evening with Daniel Farke having labelled Georginio Rutter a ‘major doubt’ due to an abdominal strain.

Leeds need to take advantage of Rotherham uncertainty

Caretaker boss Carlisle has admitted that the absence of both players for tonight is ‘not ideal’, particularly given some of the other players that are missing.

He said: “It’s not ideal but, let’s be honest, in comparison to some of the other injuries we’ve had it’s a lot better than those. He’s [Cafu] been having some physio treatment out there. He’ll have a follow-up MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan. Like with Sam, it’s looking like early-to-mid-December time.”

Rotherham have a number of other injuries for tonight and given that they are still without a manager, Leeds simply have to take advantage.

David Prutton has backed Leeds to secure a comfortable victory but Rotherham have been decent at home so far and held Ipswich Town to a 2-2 draw earlier this month.

Though Leeds are likely to be without Rutter, Farke did also confirm that five players had returned to full training, meaning it should be a strong squad.
