Daniel Farke has provided a positive injury update on five players ahead of Leeds United’s trip to Rotherham United on Friday.

The international break has handed Leeds some opportunity to get some injured bodies back, with Djed Spence, Joe Gelhardt, Jamie Shackleton, Sam Byram and Pascal Struijk all having return to training.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Farke confirmed the aforementioned three have all been back in full team training for just under a week, with the latter two having returned today.

Spence will particularly represent a huge boost for Leeds as he has played just 10 minutes since his season-long-loan arrival from Tottenham Hotspur due to a knee injury.

Byram and Struijk, meanwhile, have both been crucial figures in Leeds’ defence. The former limped off with a hamstring injury against Plymouth Argyle, while the latter missed the game completely due to surgery on a hernia.

Leeds fans finally get to see Spence

Providing a full update on Leeds’ injured quintet, Farke says it is good news for all of them, but it will be a late call as to whether they will be involved.

He said: “Some good news. Gelhardt, also Shackleton and Spence are back in team training. Five days since last Saturday all three fully involved. Byram and Struijk: recovery is much quicker than expected.

“Involved in team training today but we have to wait to see how they come through. It will be a late call. It’s good news.”

Leeds supporters will undoubtedly be excited at the prospect of Spence returning to the squad given the excitement that surrounded his signing.

Right-back is a position that has been chopped and changed over the last two months but Spence should provide Farke with a consistent figure in that position.

A back four of Spence, Joe Rodon, Struijk and Byram is undoubtedly among the best in the division and that prospect is not far away.
