Sean Longstaff is set to be a solid signing for Leeds United, as Daniel Farke will be happy that his Premier League experience has been added ahead of the coming season.

Leeds’ midfield is looking very strong going into the new campaign, with Longstaff a significant part of that.

The former Newcastle United midfielder will give the Whites the hard-working traits needed for a potential relegation battle.

Alongside this, Longstaff will bring his ‘leadership’ as the 27-year-old will be a commanding voice in the changing room.

But after his £15 million switch from the North-East, it’s become clearer that the Toon Army’s fanbase are beginning to regret his sale.

Newcastle United fans can’t believe they sold Sean Longstaff to Leeds United

As the Peacocks can benefit from the graft of the midfielder, it appears that Newcastle fans aren’t too happy.

Farke thinks he can ‘improve’ Longstaff, which is what stood out to the former Magpies star before signing, and now, after his switch, there seems to be real regret from his former fanbase.

Following his arrival, Leeds fans thought Longstaff was the ‘best signing’ so far this summer, and the Black and White Army might be inclined to agree after their disappointment on X.

One Newcastle fan said: “Madness decision. Even crazier more teams didn’t go in for him at that price,” as another criticised the Toon Army’s hierarchy, saying: “Sack the board we deserve so much better than this.”

Although the deal equals up to £15 million due to add-ons, the original £12 million fee seems to have irritated the fanbase, as one wrote: “Selling Sean Longstaff for £12m was a terrible & woeful decision. Gets worse by the day,” as another agreed, suggesting: “Been saying this since day 1, makes no sense, I’d rather have that player than 12m we will never see.”

Many fans seem to be worried about their actual replacement, as it will be difficult to replicate Longstaff’s ‘incredible’ energy, with one supporter saying: “We’re going to miss him. We can try to replace him, but there aren’t many grafters like him willing to be a 5th midfielder.”

Another was baffled the midfielder hadn’t been replaced: “Was ok letting him go maybe but not without an upgrade in place!!”

The Whites seem to have had the last laugh now, as Newcastle fans were sad to see Longstaff go, and this should only excite the Leeds faithful.

Leeds United’s Sean Longstaff has proven he can dominate high-level opposition

Not only does the 27-year-old bring with him this energy, which Newcastle fans will miss, but his quality on the ball has impressed on the biggest stage.

When Eddie Howe’s side beat PSG 4-1 in the Champions League back in 2023, the Leeds star dominated Luis Enrique’s side.

This experience he brings with him will come in handy for the Whites, who will be facing a vast difference in quality compared to the Championship last season.

Longstaff has already looked solid for Leeds, and there is plenty more to come.
