New Fabrizio Romano transfer update now surely opens door for 27-year-old’s Leeds United exit

Daniel Farke has suggested that Leeds United are in for a quiet January transfer window.

However, that is not to say Leeds will not be bringing anyone in and that need could be heightened if any of their first team players head for the Elland Road exit door.

One player who has been heavily linked with a move elsewhere when the window opens is Junior Firpo, with his former club Real Betis said to be keen on an initial loan deal with an option-to-buy.

Their interest in Firpo could hinge on whether Juan Miranda leaves, who was Betis’ first choice left-back earlier in the season until rumours of an exit gathered pace. According to Fabrizio Romano, that is now looking increasingly likely.

Miranda is out of contract at Betis in the summer but AC Milan are willing to pay £1.7 million in order to bring a deal forward in January, which will leave them in need of a replacement.

Miranda exit could signal end of Firpo’s Leeds career

Firpo had looked likely to leave in the summer but a serious injury that kept him out until the beginning of November all but ended his chances of a move.

He claimed last month that the reason he remained at Elland Road was due to how he has found himself at home in Leeds, as well as the style of play under Daniel Farke.

However, a route back to his old club – where he enjoyed undoubtedly the best period of his career – would surely be tempting for him amid his form and injury struggles at Leeds.

Miranda was playing regularly at Betis in the first couple of months of the season and so clearly there is an opening for Firpo to return to La Liga as a first choice left-back.

With Sam Byram’s form this season, he is unlikely to find that at Leeds and so this latest update from Romano could well be what opens the door for his exit.
