‘I had a lot of offers’… Junior Firpo now shares the two reasons why he stayed at Leeds United in the summer

Junior Firpo has revealed the two reasons behind why he stayed at Leeds United in the summer.

Firpo had been expecting to leave Elland Road following Leeds’ relegation and despite interest from the likes of Marseille and Real Betis, a move never materialised.

And speaking on the latest episode of the Official Leeds United Podcast, he says Daniel Farke’s style of play and the way he has found a home in Leeds meant he did not want to leave.

Firpo made his return from injury in the final game before the international break as he came off the bench to replace Sam Byram at left-back just after half-time.

The 27-year-old had spent the entirety of Farke’s reign recovering from injury, meaning he did not get a pre-season and has had to ease his way back into the fold.

Firpo enjoying life under Farke at Leeds

Speaking on the summer, Firpo says on top of the fact he has found a home in Leeds, the main reason why he stayed is down to what he saw from Farke while he was out.

He said: “I never spoke after the market but this is the main reason why I stayed. I had a lot of offers but first of all, when you find a place that is home – this is what I found here in Leeds. Spanish players come from sunny lifestyle but I am a family guy.

“Most of the time I am home with my wife and kids. I lived in Barcelona for two years, one minute away from the beach and didn’t go to the beach once. I prefer to be at home or the park with my kids.

“The lifestyle here is different. In Spain when you go out people are asking for pictures when you are with your kids, here people are more polite. They leave your space and after they come really politely.”

Some supporters may be cynical and attribute the only reason as to why Firpo stayed was because he spent the entirety of the summer injured.

While that could be a contributing factor, it is good to hear that he really feels at home in Leeds and was eager to comeback and play under Farke.

Farke has clearly won the respect from the squad for how he handled the summer and it appears players are really enjoying playing under him.
