Real Betis have launched an enquiry over re-signing Leeds United defender Junior Firpo.
That is according to Estadio Deportivo, who report Betis have made a move to find out Firpo’s plans after Leeds’ relegation, though it has not developed into a serious enquiry.
Instead, Firpo is deemed more likely to make the switch to French side Marseille, who have made the 26-year-old their first choice left back target after Nuno Tavares returned to Arsenal following his loan spell.
Firpo spent arguably the best period of his career at Betis between the years of 2017 and 2019, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in 43 appearances.
Despite that, it does not appear as though the Europa League side are serious about bringing him back, despite having made exploratory contacts.
Firpo return to Betis unlikely despite enquiry
Betis are reportedly in need of signing a new left back this summer but may focus their priorities elsewhere due to their current financial situation.
They are already close to signing one player from Leeds in Marc Roca this summer, but are having to put the deal on hold until they officially complete the sale of William Carvalho.
Roca is one of three signings Betis are said to have preliminary agreed, with Hector Bellerin and Ayoze Perez also close to a move to the club.
Given they are having to rely on an exit to sanction their first three signings, it is difficult to see them moving for Firpo unless they really have to.
Firpo is expected to depart Leeds after relegation but Marseille remains the most likely destination at this stage.
