The feel-good factor at Leeds United is as high as it has been all season at the moment after a third win in a row on Wednesday night, as The Whites cruised past Luton Town to win 3-0.
Goals from Sam Byram, Joel Piroe and Dan James saw Leeds return to the top of the Championship table after Leeds slipped to fourth position on Tuesday night, thanks to wins for Sheffield United and Burnley.
Luton never really looked as if they were going to score aside from Pascal Struijk’s incredible goal-line clearance to deny Victor Moses. Leeds were on fire, dominating possession, the tempo and three points.
Piroe scored his seventh goal of the season to strengthen his position at the top of Leeds’ goalscoring rankings, while Mateo Joseph was used from the bench once again. Patrick Bamford was left to watch on.
Neil Redfearn responds when asked about Patrick Bamford
Leeds have secured wins against QPR, Swansea and Luton in their last three – but in all three, one-time England man Bamford has been an unused sub. Daniel Farke continues to overlook his veteran striker.
Former Leeds manager Neil Redfearn was asked if he feels Farke is making the right decision by keeping Bamford on the bench. He responded by saying that you can hardly question the German boss right now.
“You’ll have to ask them why he’s not getting the minutes or why he’s not brought them on. But you can’t fault what Daniel is doing. We are really nit-picking if we are thinking of one player that has not come on.
“Vast majority of decisions have been spot on, got the subs right tonight, rested players when he gets the opportunity, the subs haven’t diluted the performance,” Redfearn told BBC Radio Leeds on Wednesday.
Patrick Bamford could be tempted by a January exit at Leeds
Before the January window opens, Leeds have seven Championship games to play and will surpass the halfway stage. Bamford meanwhile, is yet to start a league game and has only come on as a sub six times.
Bamford admitted he wanted to leave Leeds in the summer of 2023 after relegation. Carlton Palmer says Leeds should try to sell Bamford in January, given Bamford is renowned as one of the club’s top earners.
But as things stand, Bamford looks unlikely to be used over the course of the next month. Indeed, if he fails to get any more game time and is still warming the bench, surely he could be tempted by a move.
