Who is Lukas Nmecha?
Lukas Okechukwu Nmecha is a versatile forward who has signed for Leeds on a free transfer.
Born in Germany, Nmecha’s family relocated to Manchester, England, when he was a child and he was scouted by Manchester City while in primary school.
Nmecha rose through the ranks at the Etihad to make his Premier League debut in April 2018 but never broke into Pep Guardiola’s side permanently.
Nmecha would spend time on loan at Preston North End, Wolfsburg, Middlesbrough and Anderlecht – winning the Belgian side’s Player of the Season award – before departing City for good after 14 years in 2021 to return to Wolfsburg.
Four years later, Nmecha is once again leaving Germany for the north of England.
Lukas Nmecha transfer to Leeds United
Leeds have been linked with lots of players in the summer transfer window but the signing of Nmecha came out of nowhere.
He emerged as a target on June 15 and Leeds officially confirmed the signing of Nmecha shortly afterwards.
Nmecha’s contract at Wolfsburg expires this summer and he will officially join Leeds as a free agent on July 1.
It’s been revealed that former Leeds midfielder Josuha Guilavogui put in a good word to Nmecha ahead of the move.
What was said about Lukas Nmecha transfer
Speaking about his transfer, Nmecha said: “It’s just a great challenge and I’m really excited to get to know the team.
“I’ve spoken with the manager many times and I’m excited to play that style of football that they played in the Championship, even in the Premier League.
“I saw that there was dominance last season in terms of possession and the goals. I’m an attacking player, so obviously that’s exciting for me.
“Of course, in the Premier League, there’s some big boys in there where you can’t play like that all the time, but I think the idea of the manager is to play good football, possession football, and that’s what I’m used to and what I love doing.
“I wish we could get going now, but we still have a few weeks of pre-pre-season, getting the runs in and all that! But, I just can’t wait to start training now.”
How old and tall is Lukas Nmecha?
