Daniel Farke’s work in the transfer window has been superb over the 18 months he has been Leeds United manager, building a side capable of fighting promotion against the odds.
Ethan Ampadu is the club’s captain, Joel Piroe is the current top scorer and other signings like Joe Rodon, Largie Ramazani, Joe Rothwell and Ilia Gruev have all impressed since arriving at Elland Road under Farke.
The German manager has brought in Ao Tanaka too. Farke admitted he tried to sign Tanaka a year ago and it is proving out to be arguably, his best addition yet with the Japan ace arriving for a bargain £3.4m.
For Jayden Bogle, it started poorly at Elland Road. Brought in as Luke Ayling’s long-term successor on the right of the defence and even wearing his no.2 shirt, Bogle has improved of late but struggled initially.

Leigh Bromby thinks Jayden Bogle weakness not yet uncovered
When LeedsUnited.News spoke to Sheffield United expert Lee Connor, we were told that Bogle struggles defensively and is more effective going forward. On Saturday, Bogle scored his second goal for Leeds.
But initially, it was a struggle. Conceding a penalty at Portsmouth, Bogle was “all over the place” against Sheffield Wednesday. Tony Dorigo criticised Bogle for not closing down Luca Koleosho against Burnley.
Bogle has improved, but Leigh Bromby told BBC Radio Leeds he thinks Bogle has an issue in defence and both Leeds fans and Farke are yet to see the true weight of that, given Leeds’ ability to dominate matches.
“The criticism comes when he’s got to defend, but he generally doesn’t have to because Leeds have always got the ball so I think he’s a good fit,” former Leeds defender Bromby said when discussing Bogle.
“Whether he’s better than Luke Ayling, I thought he was outstanding and to replace someone who has been part of a generation is hard. Bogle looks a really good fit for the way Daniel Farke wants to play.”
Jayden Bogle’s stats for Leeds United since Elland Road move
Bogle has impressed and the way Farke plays, focusing on attack and overlapping the winger, suits Bogle. But there have only been a handful of moments where Bogle’s defending has come under the spotlight.
Jayden Bogle stats for Leeds since arriving from Sheffield United
- 14 Championship starts, suspended for one
- Two goals, no assists, five yellow cards
- 34 tackles, 46 attempted
- Eight interceptions, 10 blocks
- 23 losses of possession, 19 aerial duels lost
Bogle is good going forward but there are weaknesses in defence. While fighting for promotion in the Championship, that is fine. But if Leeds are promoted, a new right-back might be required at Leeds.
