Leicester have chosen their next manager, Foxes snub two Leeds targets after talks

The Telegraph report that Leicester City are set to appoint Manchester City assistant manager Enzo Maresca as the club’s next manager – despite holding interviews with Leeds targets Scott Parker and Steven Gerrard about the job.

Maresca is an impressive option. The Italian, who has been at City during two spells – initially, in charge of the young gems at City, before going to Parma – is currently City’s assistant. It worked pretty well for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

He will now be given the chance to take the reigns of an English club himself, albeit in the Championship. Celtic are also said to be targeting Maresca, but ex-Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers – another Leeds target – is set to return.

TalkSPORT say Parker has also held talks with Leeds, while The Athletic claim that people around Gerrard say he is confident he has a good chance of getting the job. But the latter is said to be off to Saudi Arabia with side Al-Ettifaq.

Leicester to appoint Maresca despite interviews with Leeds targets

Leeds fans are not particularly enthused by either Parker or Gerrard. Maresca has not been linked – we suggested he should be, this week. But, with Maresca, Gerrard and Parker interviewed by Leicester, they are hiring the Italian.

It means that two Leeds options remain, in Gerrard and Parker. The frontrunners for the job are still Daniel Farke and Carlos Corberan. But, if Farke wants to stay in Germany, Corberan at West Brom, Gerrard and Parker are available.

Parker of course, has two Championship promotions on his CV – and has received praise from both Guardiola and Sir Alex Ferguson over the last few years. Gerrard would see a return for Gary McAllister as assistant. Could be big.
