Leeds United are out in Germany for the next fortnight as Daniel Farke prepares his side in familiar surroundings ahead of the club’s return to the Premier League.

Fresh from their 0-0 draw against Manchester United in Stockholm on Saturday, the Leeds squad have flown to Germany to prepare for 2025-26, the same place Farke took his Leeds squad last summer.

While in Germany, the squad will be put through their paces and take on two German clubs. One lower down the German footballing pyramid and another slightly higher up, before returning next week.

The squad returns at the end of next week ahead of Saturday’s friendly against Villarreal at Elland Road on August 2. Farke’s squad includes new signings and a handful of youngsters including Sam Chambers.

Daniel Farke teases Sam Chambers during drill with Jack Harrison

Chambers is likely to leave on loan over the next few weeks after the Scotland U19 international made his debut for Leeds last season. A sub against Plymouth in the league, starting against Millwall in the Cup.

But for now, Chambers is with the senior squad as they prepare for the new season. Graham Smyth says on the YEP’s website that the 18-year-old broke a pole during training, when passing to Jack Harrison.

Smyth says the pole broke, with debris flying in the direction of Harrison before Farke quipped: “Not only taking out your teammates, but my training poles.” Harrison though, continued to encourage Chambers.

Having returned from Everton, Harrison has been keeping a low profile amid boos from fans on Saturday. But in training, Harrison was all smiles. Smyth reports he encouraged Chambers after the pole damage.

Smyth notes that after two nice touches from Chambers, Harrison was the first to acknowledge and praise Chambers. He might not be well liked, but Harrison is the perfect mentor for a player like Chambers.

Sam Chambers one of a number of youngsters set to go on loan

While everyone at Leeds will have been vying for promotion, Chambers may have benefited more if Leeds didn’t go up. Another season in the Championship may have given the Scottish teen more game time.

Instead, promotion to the top tier reduces the number of games, and the risk of putting a rookie into the team. He will need to leave Leeds on loan if he wants to add to his two senior appearances last season.

Chambers is not the only one. James Debayo seems like he has actually left Leeds, while Charlie Crew is likely to go on loan again. Wales international Crew is currently with Chambers over in Germany.
