Leeds United are back in Premier League action against Burnley at the weekend, but how does Daniel Farke’s side tend to fare after the international break?
It’s been a promising start to the Premier League season for Leeds United but one that has left plenty of room for improvement.
Daniel Farke has proven he can make a team capable of competing in the top flight and Leeds would be much higher in the table if they hadn’t conceded some soft, late goals to throw vital points away.
Though there have been positive signs that survival is achievable for Leeds, it’s crucial the side continues to fight and pick up victories, as it won’t take many defeats to slip into a relegation battle.
Which is what makes the weekend’s clash with Burnley absolutely vital.

Leeds are yet to face any of their fellow promoted sides yet but must be aiming to take maximum points off them if they want to stay up.
Burnley, meanwhile, have already faced Sunderland and picked up a vital victory against a side that spent massively in the transfer window. They should not be underestimated, especially at home.
The fact that the crucial game comes directly after an international break adds further intrigue and here’s how Leeds have performed in such fixtures recently.

Daniel Farke’s post-international break win record at Leeds
Farke is now into his third season in charge at Elland Road, meaning he has managed nine games after an international break so far, with Saturday’s trip to Turf Moor the 10th.
Here are the results from each of those games:
2023-24
- Millwall 0-3 Leeds
- Norwich 2-3 Leeds
- Rotherham 1-1 Leeds
- Watford 2-2 Leeds
2024-25
- Leeds 0-1 Burnley
- Leeds 2-0 Sheffield United
- Swansea 3-4 Leeds
- Luton 1-1 Leeds
2025-26
- Fulham 1-0 Leeds
In nine fixtures immediately after international breaks under Farke, Leeds have won just four of them, a win rate of 44.4%. Three of the games were drawn, while there were also two defeats.
Are Leeds United in trouble against Burnley?
Leeds do not boast the best record post-international break under Farke, which is perhaps not surprising given the number of internationals in his side, which was particularly high for a Championship club.
With the likes of Ao Tanaka and Brenden Aaronson typically having to deal with long trips, too, it’s understandable that the team might not be at its sharpest in the aftermath of international action.
A defeat at home to Burnley following the September break last season is particularly concerning, especially as Farke failed to beat Scott Parker’s side once last season.
A win in Lancashire is absolutely crucial and, thankfully, many of the most crucial performers this season – Sean Longstaff, Noah Okafor, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Anton Stach, Pascal Struijk and Jayden Bogle – have been resting for the last week.
However, Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Karl Darlow have all had to compete in important qualifiers without much success.
How Farke manages his squad will be crucial in picking up the win.
