Leeds United are now reportedly ‘waiting for a market opportunity’ in January to sell Junior Firpo.

Firpo is the subject of interest from former club Real Betis, who are keen to reunite him with his former Leeds teammate Marc Roca as they go in search of a new left-back.

Betis are said to be interested in an initial loan deal that includes an option-to-buy at the end of the season, with Foot Mercato also reporting that Firpo is keen to leave.

And in a new report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Firpo is now said to be ‘burning with the desire’ to leave Elland Road as he looks to get his career back on track after a tough time at Leeds.

However, it is also reported that Betis’ move to Firpo is likely to rest on the future of Juan Miranda, who is a target of AC Milan. At this stage, though, it is unclear whether he will move in January, or the summer.

Firpo departure may be best for all parties

It is strange to see all these reports about Firpo emerging considering what he said last week about how he has found a home in Leeds, and it is why he didn’t leave in the summer.

However, the fact Firpo was injured for the entirety of the window, and then until November, meant any move for him was going to be difficult, regardless of how he felt.

It was reported by Fabrizio Romano before his injury that Firpo was keen on finding a new challenge, and now he is fit again ahead of January, an exit is feeling inevitable.

With reports coming from across so many different outlets, there is no smoke without fire and in truth, an exit for Firpo may be best for all parties.

It would then allow Leeds to find a new left-back, who is perhaps more reliable in terms of fitness, while also giving Firpo the chance to return to his old club, where he played his best football.
