Leeds United’s hectic summer transfer window has been followed by a very calm January, as it stands.
Having lost Djed Spence, Luke Ayling and Darko Gyabi, the Whites are yet to bring anyone in this month but are willing to be patient until their first choice targets become available.
This is a stark contrast to that of the summer, with Leeds making nine new signings – over half of which came in the last two weeks of the window – to replace the 17 that headed out of Elland Road.
Reflecting on the summer, Leeds will be extremely happy with how they rebuilt the squad with several of their signings having proven to be huge successes. There is, perhaps, one who leads the way.
According to the Athletic, Leeds feel they secured an absolute bargain in Ethan Ampadu, signing him from Chelsea for an initial fee of around £7 million. An incredible deal in this day and age.
Leeds think Ampadu was a bargain
Leeds sold Tyler Adams to Bournemouth for around £23 million in August, and he has managed just 20 minutes of football at his new club due to recurring issues with hamstring.
Ampadu, on the other hand, has played all but one minute of football in all competitions for Leeds this season. Availability is one of the best traits a player can have, and Ampadu has it in abundance.
Adams was one of Leeds’ best players last season, although in all honesty, that wasn’t too difficult. Jesse Marsch even thinks his performances made him a top 100 player in the world.
However, there is no way that the difference in valuations of Ampadu and Adams is £16 million, with the former arguably better in possession than the latter.
Whether in central midfield or at centre-back like the last two matches, Ampadu has proven he is a level above the Championship and so hopefully Leeds get promoted, so he can make the step up.
