Emi Buendia is a player who Daniel Farke knows very well, and he could soon become a player who Leeds United fans get to know too.
Leeds United have big plans for the summer transfer window and Emi Buendia could well be a name they look to recruit in the coming weeks.
Back in the January transfer window, Leeds United wanted to sign Buendia on loan from Aston Villa. He joined Bayer Leverkusen instead and the German club had a £16.7million option to buy Daniel Farke’s former Norwich City talisman.
But recent reports stated that Bayer Leverkusen turned down the chance to sign Buendia who’ll now return to Villa Park this summer, where his future remains unclear, if not uncertain.

The latest on Leeds United’s transfer interest in Emi Buendia
Following the news that Leverkusen had turned down a deal for Buendia, it was then revealed that Leeds United have retained their interest in Buendia ahead of the summer transfer window opening on June 1st.
Earlier in the year, we revealed that Leeds United wanted to sign Buendia in the summer after failing to sign him in January. Before leaving for Leverkusen though, Aston Villa handed Buendia a contract extension until the summer of 2027.
It wouldn’t come cheap for Leeds United then. But this £16.7million option to buy that Leverkusen failed to take up could be an exact indication of how much Unai Emery’s side are ready to command for the 28-year-old this summer.

Leeds United fans have mixed feelings about Emi Buendia as Gustavo Hamer point made
Buendia is not the only no.10 being linked with Leeds United right now. Among a few others, Gustavo Hamer is linked with Leeds United as well, and many fans have debated whether or not Buendia would be a better signing than Hamer.
“My first choice would be Emi Buendia without doubt, but I wouldn’t turn my nose up at Gus Hamer like some are,” said one Leeds United fan. “Get one of them in that no.10 role.”
Another fan said of Buendia: “Was a fantastic player, I’d take him on loan. Buy Hamer.”
A lengthier comment on the debate read: “Hamer is good and was decent for a poor Sheffield United team in Premier League last time, but doesn’t have the stamina. Buendia hasn’t ever lit the Premier League up and has barely played recently either.”
This Leeds United fan simply posted: “If the links are true, Buendia > Hamer.”
| Stat (Premier League) | Emi Buendia | Gustavo Hamer |
| Games | 121 | 36 |
| Goals | 10 | 4 |
| Assists | 15 | 6 |
| Mins PG | 687.5 | 731 |
Both players have undoubted quality and both would cost around the £15million mark, if recent valuations are to be believed. There’s certainly a case to state for both players but for Farke, the fact that he was the one to get the best out of Buendia beforehand at Norwich City could make him the more likely signing this summer.
