Willy Gnonto’s future has been up in the air since Leeds United were relegated to the Championship but now it appears the Italian might sign a new deal – despite many reports suggesting otherwise.
Now 20, Gnonto has struggled to start for Leeds this season. It comes after sparkling for the Whites in the Premier League, mostly under Jesse Marsch. Last summer, he ended up staying despite his efforts.
Gnonto refused to play in games against Birmingham, Shrewsbury and West Brom. He returned to the squad but the form of Dan James and Cree Summerville has kept Gnonto out of the side, currently.
Right now, Gnonto has picked up an injury and was missing from Sunday’s win over Preston. Reports have linked him with the exit door. Claims from Italy said the 49ers had given the ‘green light’ to sell him.
West Ham and Fulham had been linked in England. But Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas claimed on the Transfer Centre (Monday, 3.24PM) and on Twitter that Leeds are confident of a new deal for Gnonto.

It would come as a shock. Numerous outlets in England have continuously suggesting that Leeds are keen on tying up Gnonto’s future but with the winger not starting, it was likely that he would be sold.
Especially, with Gnonto likely to have one eye on Euro 2024 – and the desire to get himself back into Italy’s squad. But, the latest report – albeit a surprise – says Leeds are still confident of a new contract.
It would be a signal of intent from Leeds, if they could get a deal done for Gnonto and end speculation over his future. Leeds have been busy with contracts, securing deals for Archie Gray and Mateo Joseph.
