Leeds United will be looking for revenge against Preston North End on Sunday but they will have to do it without Pascal Struijk he continues to sit out on the sidelines – and most likely, Willy Gnonto.
Leeds suffered a 2-1 loss last time out against Ryan Lowe’s side, with Illan Meslier sent off and Liam Millar starring for the Lilywhites. Leeds remain unbeaten at Elland Road this term, and will be favourites.
Even without Struijk, who has been sensational at the back and Italy star Gnonto, who is often the first person Daniel Farke turns to off the sub’s bench. The latter has endured a difficult 2023-24 campaign.
Ahead of Sunday’s clash at Elland Road, Daniel Farke told Leeds United’s YouTube channel that Struijk will remain on the sidelines this weekend – and likely, next week’s games against Norwich and Plymouth.
Meanwhile, Farke also stated that Gnonto is a big doubt this weekend after picking up an injury to his hip. It means the Italy star has only been in and out of different parts of training during the last few days.
“Good progress with Struijk but he’s not in training yet. He’s definitely out for Sunday, I don’t expect him to return on Wednesday or Saturday next week,” Farke said – when asked about injuries for Sunday.
“Willy Gnonto is a major doubt, he has problems with his hip flexor. He was not able to training in the last few days, or just parts of training – he is a major doubt for the matchday squad,” the Leeds boss added.

Struijk’s absence remains a huge loss but not having Gnonto to come on and potentially make an impact is also a blow. Yes, the Italy man has not done it enough, but he still has the ability to do so in our shirt.
Losing these two is a huge blow for Farke. But, he does have Sam Byram and Liam Cooper available, if the latter can play 90 minutes – he will surely start. Dan James and Cree Summerville then, are to start.
