The feel-good factor at Leeds United right now is infectious. The Whites have climbed into second place, with promotion looking a real possibility. The 49ers would be wise to take advantage of it.

Players want to play for Leeds, with morale high right now. It is exciting, fans are loving it, and the prize of promotion and an instant return to the Premier League is well within sight, under boss Daniel Farke.

So, Leeds would only be doing the right thing, to consider handing out some contracts to players that have attracted interest in the last few months. Leeds want to do a deal for Willy Gnonto at some point.

But, Phil Hay believes that judging by the way things are going – Crysencio Summerville will be asked to sit down and discuss new terms. Clinton Morrison says he has been our best player so far, this season.

Ross McCormack reckons he is the best player in the Championship. That has seen him attract interest from clubs in the Premier League, like Newcastle. Hay says Leeds will try to tie him down on a new deal.

“Interestingly nothing with Summerville yet who does have a long deal, but with the form he is in it is going to naturally lead to that discussion – not ongoing at the moment,” Hay told The Square Ball.

There are a few examples in this Leeds side of players that will require promotion if they are to stay at Leeds this summer. Others include perhaps, Illan Meslier, Joe Rodon, Junior Firpo and Georginio Rutter.

Summerville is no different. Leeds will be wise enough not to enter talks over a new deal just yet, as they will know that his representatives will simply reply and say, let’s see what league Leeds are in, next term.

But, there is no doubt that Summerville is in the form of his life, on fire. He is happy, and if Leeds do go and get promoted, you can expect Leeds to enter contract talks with the Netherlands U21 attacker.
