‘He is ready’: Daniel Farke confirms ‘excellent’ player is available for Leeds despite Wednesday comments

Daniel Farke has confirmed Crysencio Summerville is fit for Leeds United’s match with Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Farke was speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the first West Yorkshire derby since March 2020, where he was asked about Summerville’s condition after his comments in midweek.

Despite Summerville netting two goals in Leeds’ 3-2 win at Norwich City last weekend, he was dropped to the bench for Wednesday night’s trip to Stoke City.

When asked about Summerville’s omission after the game, Farke confirmed the Dutchman was unable to play three games in seven days, while also nursing a shoulder injury.

Summerville’s absence was hard felt at the bet365 Stadium as Leeds fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat, in which they were a long way from their best form.

Farke says Summerville is fit for Saturday

However, Farke has confirmed Summerville is available to play against Huddersfield, and is hopeful it won’t be long before he is able to start every game.

He said: “Not a big problem. Struggled with it for a few weeks. Shoulder injuries needs strapping before every game and session. Last a while in this area. He is ready for training and games. Not a big problem, not the only reason he did not start on Wednesday. Missed big parts of pre-season.

“One muscle injury already this season. Struggling with shoulder and cramped at Norwich. He is in outstanding form and a brilliant performance. Spoke about my appreciation for him after the last game he started. Remember we need him all season and cannot afford a long-term injury with something stupid. Have to be careful. In a few weeks he will be ready for three games in seven days.”

Summerville was hailed as ‘excellent’ by Farke earlier in the season and his return to the starting XI will be a huge boost for Leeds as it was clear on Wednesday how much of a big miss he was.

At the same time, it was an understandable decision from Farke to hand Summerville a rest if he was genuinely concerned about his current workload.

However, his inclusion in the starting XI tomorrow would be vital as he has the quality to cause Huddersfield all sorts of problems if he is at his best.
