‘Little injuries’: Daniel Farke says one Leeds player is currently unable to play three games in a week

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke says Crysencio Summerville is currently unable to play three games in a week.

Farke was speaking in his post-match press conference following last night’s disappointing 1-0 defeat at Stoke City, in which Summerville was only used as a substitute.

The Leeds boss sprung a surprise in his starting XI by dropping Summerville to the bench after his heroic performance in the 3-2 comeback victory at Norwich City last weekend.

Summerville netted a brace as Leeds came from 2-0 to earn a massive, a game which made it three goals and an assist in his last three matches for the Dutchman.

However, with Leeds in midweek action at Stoke, followed by a short turnaround to Saturday lunchtime’s West Yorkshire derby with Huddersfield Town, Farke made changes. Summerville was one of them.

Farke says Summerville can’t play three matches in a week

Speaking on why he was dropped from the starting XI, Farke revealed Summerville is unable to play three full matches in seven days, as he is having to take painkillers before every game.

He said: “Summerville cannot play three matches over 90 in seven days. Little injuries and an affected pre-season. Playing with painkillers and a strapped shoulder.”

This is a surprise to hear from Farke given Summerville played three matches in seven days earlier this month against Southampton, Queens Park Rangers and Bristol City.

At the same time, it is not a shock to learn he is playing with painkillers given how often he is kicked and fouled within matches, while receiving little protection from referees.

Having received somewhat of a rest last night, hopefully Summerville returns to the starting XI on Saturday as Leeds can ill afford to drop any more points ahead of next week’s trip to Leicester City.
