Leeds United are not currently pursuing a move for Brighton & Hove Albion attacking midfielder Facundo Buonanotte.

That is according to Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Graham Smyth, who says reports linking Leeds with a move for the 18-year-old are ‘wide of the mark’.

Speculation had gathered pace overnight that Leeds were in for Buonanotte with Argentinian journalist Victor Bilsky claiming talks were ongoing between the two clubs over a loan deal.

It was said by Bilsky that a season-long-loan with a potential option-to-buy was under discussion, but it now appears that is not the case.

Buonanotte could be allowed to leave Brighton before the end of the window with manager Roberto De Zerbi already having admitted he may not be able to offer him the game time he wants.

Leeds are in desperate need of adding some creativity in that number 10 role, with Pablo Hernandez still not having been replaced since his exit in 2021.

Buonanotte would certainly have helped fill that void with Carlos Tevez having likened him to Lionel Messi during their time working together at Rosario Central.

The teenager has already been capped at senior level by Argentina and played 14 times for Brighton last season following his January arrival.

Though Smyth did all but rule out Buonanotte joining Leeds, he did add that his profile is something that would ‘make sense’ to bring into Daniel Farke’s squad.

This latest update is certainly disappointing given how talented Buonanotte really is.
