Fulham have reportedly rejected the chance to sign Leeds United man Brenden Aaronson on loan and the decision could prove to be a blessing in disguise for the American – who would have struggled to start at Craven Cottage.
Aaronson, 22, joined Leeds as Jesse Marsch’s first signing for £25m last summer in a reunion, from Salzburg. But, after a bright start at Elland Road, he failed. Miserably. Just one goal in 40 games, laying on just three Leeds assists.
The Mail reported in June that Fulham have made an official approach to sign Aaronson on loan. Last week, transfer expert Dean Jones told Give Me Sport that Fulham were hoping to make progress soon, in a deal for the USA star.
But over the weekend, the Mail (July 1, page 105) said Fulham have ended their interest in Aaronson. That is despite Tottenham looking set to sign Manor Solomon, and Willian leaving. But it would have been a bad move for Aaronson.

Aaronson’s poor form last season would hardly have made him a starter, in his preferred no.10 role. Fulham have of course lost Dan James, and look set to wave goodbye to Willian and Solomon. But, they are all options out wide.
Aaronson is a 10. Fulham have the perfect player for that role, in Andreas Pereira. The ex-Manchester United star formed a wonderful midfield three with the deeply impressive Joao Palhinha and Harrison Reed, under Marco Silva.
So, despite the exits on the flanks, a move to Fulham would have been a bad one for Aaronson. It would have seen him warm the bench under Silva. He needs his confidence restored and finding a club where he starts is crucial.
Staying might give him that option. Bundesliga clubs are keen. That may be his best move. But a move to Fulham would have seen him struggle. So, Fulham’s decision to reject him is a blessing in disguise, for Aaronson himself.
