Fulham have seemingly ended their interest in Leeds United midfielder Brenden Aaronson.
That is according to the printed version of the Daily Mail (July 1, page 105), who report Fulham have opted against making an offer for Aaronson after initial enquiries last week.
Marco Silva’s side had earmarked him as a potential target for the number 10 position but appear to now be looking elsewhere, with Union Berlin the current frontrunners for his signature.
The Mail have backed up yesterday’s report from the Daily Telegraph revealing Union Berlin’s interest, by now claiming they are in talks with Leeds over a deal just over 12 months after paying £25m to sign him from RB Salzburg.
Union Berlin are expected to be active in this summer’s transfer window after qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in their history last season.
Fulham end pursuit of Aaronson
Aaronson is one of several players expected to depart Leeds this summer after relegation to the Championship, with a release clause now active in his contract.
Fulham were said to be pursuing a loan deal for Aaronson, which Leeds would reportedly have to accept if the buying club agree to pay 100% of the wages.
After learning the conditions of the deal, though, they have seemingly stopped short of pursuing a deal and will now look to focus their attention on other targets.
From Aaronson’s perspective, it became clear fairly quickly last season that he was not good enough technically nor physically for the Premier League.
As such, if he can secure a move to Union Berlin it would provide him with the chance to rediscover his form at RB Salzburg, with the Bundesliga offering far more space to play in attacking areas.
