Leeds United now have a verbal agreement in place with Newcastle United for the signing of Karl Darlow.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who says Leeds are now closing in on sealing a deal for the 32-year-old with just the final details needing to be finalised.
Darlow is set to become Leeds’ second signing of the summer after Ethan Ampadu’s arrival from Chelsea last week and will come in to fight for the number one spot.
Reports of Leeds being close to a deal emerged yesterday, with Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth breaking the news of talks being at an advanced stage.
This time last week Bournemouth had emerged as firm favourites in the race but Leeds have continued fighting for his signature and appear to have got their man.
Romano says verbal agreement now in place for Darlow
Darlow is now set to fly back from Newcastle’s pre-season tour of the United States so he can undergo a medical ahead of his move.
Leeds will be adding an abundance of experience between the sticks once his arrival is officially sealed, with over 200 appearances under his belt in England’s top two divisions.
The Whites have also seen off competition from the likes of Hull City and Middlesbrough this summer, with Darlow having enjoyed an excellent loan spell at the former in the second half of last season.
Darlow will initially be competing with Illan Meslier for that first choice spot under Daniel Farke, with goalkeeper having been among Leeds’ top priorities.
Meslier is expected to move on before the window is done but no bids have yet been received.
