Leeds United are on the verge of making Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow their second summer signing.
That is according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth, who reports Leeds are now in advanced talks with the Magpies over sealing a permanent deal.
Reports last week had placed Bournemouth as firm favourites in the race for his signature, but as per Smyth, Leeds have continued working on the deal in the last few days.
Smyth also reported on Monday that Leeds were hoping to get a deal done for a goalkeeper this week and it appears as though Darlow will be their man.
Bournemouth have already moved onto finding a suitable alternative with Inter Milan’s Andrei Radu having agreed a deal to come to the South Coast.
Leeds in advanced talks for Darlow signing
Darlow has been among Leeds’ top goalkeeping targets throughout the summer and it finally looks as though they have got their man.
The fee in which Leeds will be paying Newcastle is yet to be confirmed, though £5 million has been the price tag that has been thrown around during the window.
Darlow will add an abundance of experience to Leeds’ ranks once his arrival goes through, with over 200 appearances under his belt in the top two divisions of English football.
Whether he comes in as number one immediately is another question, with Illan Meslier still on the books with no offer having been received for him so far.
That said, if Meslier does leave as expected, Leeds now have a suitable replacement ready to come straight in.
