Junior Firpo nabbed the headlines on Monday night with a goal and an assist for Leeds United as The Whites came from behind to beat Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The left-back has been on fire since Daniel Farke took charge of Leeds United and returned from injury during the first half of the 2023-24 season. Firpo has now clocked up 50 Championship games for Leeds.

That is including, last season’s three play-off games. The defender has a whopping 18 goals and assists in that time from left-back, scoring two goals and laying on an incredible 16 assists, doing both last night.

Firpo equalised for Leeds when the left-back popped into Sheffield United’s box to head home a cross from Dan James. Not long later, he flicked a header to Ao Tanaka who managed to squeeze the ball in.

Fabrizio Romano issues new Junior Firpo update after masterclass

Little surprise, that Firpo was awarded the man-of-the-match title for his performance against Sheffield United as he goes from strength to strength. But, his long-term future at Leeds remains in huge doubt.

The former Barcelona man is out of contract in the summer. Reports emerged last week that Firpo had changes agency to You First and now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed those reports with a post on X.

“Junior Firpo has signed with You First as new agency while he’s doing excellent at Leeds United. Has 10 G/A in 20 games, with contract due to expire in the summer as this topic will be discussed soon.”

The clubs that are interested in signing Junior Firpo, so far

Before the January window, interest from Turkish side Besiktas emerged in Firpo with the SuperLig giants keen to replace Arthur Masuaku. Real Betis are said to be ‘leading’ the race to sign former player Firpo.

Towards the end of the January window, Leeds made an approach for Matt Targett in case Firpo left the club with Real Sociedad linked. Nothing materialised and Firpo has remained in a Leeds United shirt.

Firpo is said to be open to signing a new deal, but Leeds are perhaps putting things on hold until they know which division they will be in. Failure to get promoted, and of course, Leeds will want Firpo gone.
