Crysencio Summerville could now be set for a quick resolution to his Leeds United future after Netherlands U21s’ exit from the EUROs on Tuesday.
Summerville was again asked about his future before yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Georgia, where he told Voetbal International, via 1908.nl, he would not be taking any notice of speculation until after the EUROs.
However, despite their team featuring stars such as Ryan Gravenberch and Kenneth Taylor, Netherlands were unable to secure qualification from their group.
The Dutch youngsters could only manager a third consecutive draw in a row against the tournament hosts on Tuesday evening, which saw them go crashing out of the tournament by a point.
The winger who Michael Owen branded as ‘exceptional’ after Leeds’ 4-3 defeat at Spurs in November will now get some time off before returning for pre-season with the other internationals on July 10, dependent, of course, on his future.
Summerville could now be set for quick resolution on future
Summerville has said twice over the last week his future is not something at the forefront of his mind while he is representing his country at the EUROs.
Ahead of yesterday’s game, he said: “I would not know yet whether I’ll play for Leeds next season. I also hear and read all kinds of things, but I do not want to be involved in that now.
“I have therefore asked my agent to keep all interest away from me for the time being. The first target is the Dutch U21s. I want to win. I’m hungry.”
With Netherlands having made a shock early exit, it is now time for Summerville to start considering his future ahead of the new season.
He spoke of his love for Leeds last week but there have been reports he is looking to leave this summer in order to stake a claim for Netherlands’ senior squad at the EUROs in 12 months.
Everton and Feyenoord are among the teams to have been linked, but Leeds must hold out for a big fee as he is one of the most talented young wingers around.
