Halfway into the run of eight games without a win, not many will have predicted Crysencio Summerville would be the catalyst to turn our fortunes around – but the Leeds star has been excellent and Michael Owen has been full of praise.

Summerville, 21, opened his account as a sub in the 3-2 loss to Fulham. Then, he got the winner against Liverpool – a day before he turned 21. Next was the winner against Bournemouth and on Saturday, he made it four goals in four.

He opened the scoring – slightly different given Summerville has scored the final goal in the previous three games. A neat pass from Brenden Aaronson and a clinical finish past Hugo Lloris. Saturday was the best and the worst of Leeds.

Delightfully effective going forward, recycling the ball and utilising the press to keep attacks and territory alive. But Tottenham’s four goals show how when the press is beaten, Leeds are vulnerable. But another goal for Summerville.

That is now four in four for the Dutch wonderkid. He will have been one of a few Leeds players desperate for the season to keep going – instead of the World Cup break. Owen, though, was very impressed by the Leeds attacker.

“This is such a good goal. Look at that for a touch [Summerville’s first]. The ball is behind him. He takes one lovely touch with the outside of his foot, then another one to keep him away from the defender and finishes it brilliantly.

“This is a really hard chance. He’s behind the defender in many ways when he gets the ball. I mean how he does that is really, really exceptional,” Owen said in his analysis of Summerville’s goal, during the Premier League’s coverage.

The pocket-sized Leeds star’s form has been superb. But now, unlike any other season, he will have to wave goodbye to his momentum as the campaign hits the skids for six weeks. Unfair on the likes of Summerville.

But maybe a good time for Leeds. Just to reset, observe where they are, take a step back and realise what they can do in order to cut out the mistakes, and the amount of goals going in. But no doubt, Summerville is in excellent form.
