The 2026 World Cup is quickly approaching but which Leeds United players have won the prestigious tournament?

Leeds United could have several of their star players representing the club in the 2026 World Cup next summer.

Brenden Aaronson and Ao Tanaka’s nations are in, with co-hosts USA and Japan, respectively, already qualified.

Daniel Farke’s Welsh contingent of Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Dan James and Karl Darlow still have a strong chance of making it to the tournament, too.

Noah Okafor’s Switzerland, Gabriel Gudmundsson’s Sweden, and Jaka Bijol’s Slovenia (all in the same group) are all still in the running, but things aren’t looking good for Ilia Gruev’s Bulgaria.

However, none of Leeds’ internationals will be playing for any of the favourites to win the World Cup, and are extremely unlikely to become just the third Whites star to win the iconic tournament.

Here is who has.

Two Leeds United players in history have won the World Cup

Only two players have won the World Cup while playing for Leeds, and they did so at the same time.

The legendary Jack Charlton and fellow centre-back Norman Hunter were both in the England squad when Sir Alf Ramsey’s Three Lions won the Jules Rimet trophy in 1966.

Charlton, Leeds’ most capped England player ever, was a crucial cog in the winning side in his dynamic defensive partnership with Bobby Moore.

Hunter, though, was back-up to the established pairing and, as a result, didn’t play any of the games in the tournament.

Every Leeds United player who has played in the World Cup

Leeds have had 29 representatives at in the World Cup, starting from Northern Ireland’s Wilbur Cush in 1958, all the way to Tyler Adams, Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and James (who was on loan at Fulham), who played in Qatar in 2022.

Here’s the full list of Leeds players who have been involved in the game’s most prestigious tournament.

No Leeds player has even reached a final since Charlton and Hunter held the Jules Rimet trophy aloft at Wembley nearly sixty years ago.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, now trying his hand at Strictly, came closest in 1998 with the Netherlands finishing fourth.

But no other Leeds player has managed to make it past the quarter-final stages, something that is unlikely to change in 2026.
