Leeds United could be in for an interesting January transfer window after their recent form.
A run of just four points from their last five matches has seen them become cut adrift from the top three and some fresh impetus could well be needed in January ahead of the second half of the season.
And while much of the focus will be on incomings, with Daniel Farke having confirmed a left-back is on the agenda and David Brooks reportedly a target, player retention will also be important.
One man who stayed in the summer that was heavily linked with an exit was Wilfried Gnonto, and it would appear those reports are set to resurface ahead of January.
According to Bild, Gnonto remains at the top of Freiburg’s wish list of attacking reinforcements having had an offer ‘refused’ in the summer, and Leeds could now be more receptive to letting him go next month.
Leeds could soften Gnonto stance
Freiburg were keen on signing Gnonto in the summer but it was Everton who made the most concrete offers, with their last one said to be somewhere in the region of £25 million.
However, Gnonto has not had the impact he would’ve liked so far this season as he made just his first start since October in last night’s defeat at West Bromwich Albion.
And with that in mind, Bild have claimed that Leeds’ not for sale stance has softened somewhat, though a final decision is yet to be made by San Francisco 49ers Enterprises and Farke.
The prospect of an exit is also something that still interests the ‘special’ Gnonto, amid his desire to leave Elland Road in the summer for top-flight football.
Given Leeds’ reported interest in Brooks, who would be another competitor with Gnonto for that position on the right, it perhaps would not be a surprise if he did depart.
