Djed Spence has issued a response to claims he was let go by Leeds United due to problems with time-keeping.

Spence made the season-long-loan switch to Leeds from Tottenham back in the summer but saw his time at the club cut short early during the first few days of the January transfer window.

From the outside looking in, it had appeared as though Spence was finding his feet at Elland Road after injury saw him miss three months of the season after just one appearance.

His exit certainly came as a shock to those at Spurs but reports have since claimed that Daniel Farke took issue with some of his time-keeping, suggesting he turned up late too many times.

However, in an interview with the Athletic, Spence does not believe that to be true and insists that it has been ‘blown out of proportion’ somewhat.

Spence denies lateness claims at Leeds

He said: “I don’t think that’s fair at all. I don’t necessarily agree with what they said. But in football, this is how it is: you have to keep your head down, keep going and eventually prove people wrong.

“Some of it is a bit blown out of proportion. You can be late once and if you’re not playing, it’s a problem, and if you are playing, then it’s not a problem.”

Spence has since made the loan switch to Serie A side Genoa where he has been in and out of the side, though people inside the club have been impressed with how he has conducted himself.

There was claims at Leeds that Spence even turned up late to the meeting with Farke where he was about to be told his loan was being terminated, but clearly the 23-year-old denies that.

Unfortunately it just looks like one of those signings which did not work for either party and the arrival of Connor Roberts has gone a long way to replacing him in the squad.
