Details of SAB meeting involving Angus Kinnear reveal what really went on at Leeds United in January

There was plenty of criticism for Leeds United from supporters when the January transfer window came to a close earlier this month – but those criticisms have since faded into thin air.

Daniel Farke began the month by saying he didn’t expect a busy window. By the end of it, Farke went public by saying he wanted a striker, centre-back and a no.10 but nothing materialised in the last hours.

Leeds have been left a bit bare. Patrick Bamford is yet to return to team training and with Joe Gelhardt joining Hull on loan, Farke has just two options up top in the form of Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph.

Max Wober will have to undergo surgery on his knee and will at least, miss the next six matches before the March international break. It means Ethan Ampadu will continue to be used as a centre-back.

Angus Kinnear discusses transfer window after January failure

Leeds United’s chief executive Angus Kinnear and the Supporters Advisory Board held a meeting on January 23 to discuss matters relating to Leeds both on and off the pitch, with quotes now published.

Kinnear’s comments come towards the end of the window but far from the deadline, but he says that Farke was in “constant dialogue” with the much-changed transfer team at Leeds despite no signings.

The summary on Leeds’ website do not quote Kinnear directly, but shares a summary of what Kinnear had to say: “AK says no real updates from what Farke has said to the media regarding the transfer window.

“Hard work going on behind the scenes and recruitment team is in constant dialogue. The strength and depth of the current squad is highlighted, for instance on the wings,” the summary continues.

As long as Leeds suffer no more key injuries, they will be fine

To be fair to Kinnear, Farke and the recruitment team, the Whites are well-stocked in most positions. In goal, at full-back, central midfield and out wide sees Leeds have two or three for every position.

But Leeds are light at centre-back with Wober crocked, in the no.10 role as Brenden Aaronson continues to start week in week out, and up top. If Leeds suffer an injury in these positions, then there is a concern.

However, Farke explained why Leeds struggled to make any new signings given Leeds are on the brink of promotion to the Premier League. Leeds are fine with 14 games to play, but injury could complicate that.
