Leeds United secured a 20th Championship win of the season in their 32nd outing, and a 20th clean sheet in the League with a massive 4-0 win over Watford at Vicarage Road.

A brace from Dan James and a goal apiece for Manor Solomon and Joel Piroe saw Leeds cruise to a big away win over The Hornets. Tom Cleverley thinks Leeds are as good as a mid-table Premier League side.

The Whites now sit five points clear of Sheffield United in second and eight ahead of Burnley in third. Both sides play their game in hand tonight, both at home against Middlesbrough and Hull respectively.

Leeds look good for promotion with 14 league games left to play, with The Whites just seven wins away from the magical 90-point mark. But Daniel Farke is a perfectionist and something annoyed him.

What left Daniel Farke fuming despite Leeds securing a 4-0 win

Leeds fans were delighted with the win but Farke poured cool water over the delirium in his post-match press conference. Farke is “not happy” with Joel Piroe, before saying Ao Tanaka should score more goals.

Farke also discussed promotion and told Leeds fans that the job is still far from done. During the game, The Athletic’s Beren Cross noticed something that had got under Farke’s skin – Leeds’ possession stats.

The Whites boasted their lowest possession stats of the season, just 39%. Watford are a ball-playing side and at home, had most of the ball with Leeds pouncing on the counter but Farke will have wanted more.

Cross said on X: “The low possession has definitely got under Farke’s skin tonight. At 39 per cent, that’s their lowest of the season. He craves control and domination of games.”

Leeds now have a six-day rest before they take to the pitch again, when The Whites host Sunderland in the race to gain promotion. The Black Cats come to Yorkshire on Monday night, in front of the cameras.

But Sunderland, Sheffield United and Burnley all play on Wednesday night. It means Sunderland have a day’s less recovery before facing Leeds, while Sheffield United and Burnley both play on Saturday.

The next couple of weeks will be absolutely crucial in shaping the race for promotion given Leeds face Sunderland and Sheffield United. Unlike their opponents, Leeds have plenty of time in between games.
